Srila Gurudeva
Here is a brief update on developments in Moscow, prior to the Bhakti Yoga festival with Srila Gurudeva.
Following an order by the President of the Russian Federation, because of the regional fire hazard, the site where we were due to hold our festival was closed.
Srila Gurudeva has said that he is coming anyway, whether we have the site or not!! “The devotees are waiting for me.” And we are.
Our organisers are negotiating with local officials to see if somehow or other we can have the use of the site for the festival. We are looking at an alternative site, and also making an alternative plan for holding the festival in the city.
More than 200 devotees are staying here and there in Moscow, and another 150 are camped in the forest near the site. It is a huge endeavor to suddenly coordinate lodging, facilities and hari-katha for all the devotees who have arrived, and who continue to arrive. Of course, the sudden change was a shock, but the Russian devotee have become used to festival dramas, and the team is forming and moving into action. We are working on arrangements for prasad and lodging for all, including those who have paid festival fees, and do not have any more money with them.
Regarding fire hazard and the quality of the air, I have been here and there in the city. There is thin smoke, and visibility is decreased, but it is not at all as bad as I have heard on the news. I have nowhere had any difficulty in breathing, or felt any discomfort at all from the smoke. There is no fire danger anywhere where the devotees are.
We are constantly witnessing miraculous help in this situation, and we are moved to find how devotees are prepared to help and engage in service to Gurudeva, hari-katha and the Vaishnavas.
